The strikes comes as Israeli officials meet representatives from the US, Egypt and Qatar in Doha for talks on a possible ceasefire

Hezbollah has launched more than 25 rockets and a suspected drone at northern Israel, according to the Israeli military.

The strikes are a significant escalation, but not yet the massive attack Israel has been braced for since the assassination of senior figures from Hamas and Hezbollah a fortnight ago.

The southern Lebanon based terror group has been steadily stepping up attacks against Israel in recent days.

Just after 2pm local time today, a suspected drone entered Israeli airspace from Lebanon and was shot down over the Golan Heights, according to the Israel Defence Forces.

Shortly after, sirens sounded as five rockets fired from Lebanon landed in open areas near Kibbutz Shamir in the Upper Galilee.

A few minutes after that, a large barrage of more than 20 rockets targeted the Galilee Panhandle, with most intercepted by Israeli air defences.

A small number of rockets struck open areas. No injuries have been reported, according to the IDF.

The strikes comes as Israeli officials meet representatives from the US, Egypt and Qatar in Doha, as talks resume on a possible Gaza ceasefire deal.

Hamas officials have refused to attend the talks, but it is understood that Qatari and Egyptian officials will relay any progress made back to them.

Iran has vowed to retaliate with massive force against Israel after the political leader of Hamas Ismail Haniyeh was killed in the Iranian capital Tehran last month.

The assassination on 31 July has been blamed on the Israelis, who have neither confirmed nor denied involved.

Just hours before the Hamas political leader's death, a senior Hezbollah commander was also killed in the Lebanese capital Beirut, with the finger of blame again pointed at Israel.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed to avenge Haniyeh's death.

"You killed our dear guest in our house and now have paved the way for your harsh punishment," he said.

In April, Iran launched a massive missile and drone attack on Israel after an attack on an Iranian embassy compound in the Syrian capital earlier the same month.

Six members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Command were killed in the Damascus air strike.

Iran fired over 300 missiles and launched dozens of drones towards Israel in response.

There are fears the next threatened missile and drone strike on Israel will be much bigger and spark a wider regional conflict.

Iran's proxy groups in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen are all expected to join in any attack on Israel, expected any time.

The US has dispatched an aircraft carrier group to the region, but it is still some days away from reaching the Middle East.

A submarine and other US assets have been sent to the region and Washington has warned Tehran to show restraint and not spark a wider Middle Eastern conflict.
