A 14-year-old girl has been gang raped by 10 children in a park in Belgium, with the youngest attacker just 11-years-old.

The eldest perpetrator was aged 16-years-old, local authorities have confirmed.

The gang rape victim was attacked over the Easter holidays after being lured to a bush.

She was taken to the secluded area, which was hidden from the houses in the neighbourhood, by her boyfriend.

The young girl was abused by several of her boyfriend’s friends, with sources telling local media she was kept there for two days.

The 14-year-old is now receiving counselling to process the violation.

Ten suspects have been arrested and all of them were described as minors.

Tom Janssens of the Public Prosecutor's Office said: “Because the perpetrators are so young, we are not releasing much information about their identity.”

All suspects, who were identified and arrested, were placed under the supervision of a juvenile judge.

However, local police continue with the investigation into the gang rape incident.

The arrests come after the Flemish Parliament debated increasing the minimal penalty for sexual offences.

The region's Justice Minister Zuhal Demir proposed that detention terms should be extended up to two years for perpetrators under 14 years of age.

Detention terms for those aged 14 to 16 were proposed to face an extension of up to five years.

Offenders aged older than 16 were also facing potential stint of up to seven years.

Measures were eventually introduced to lock up people as young as 12 years old for longer periods when they are sentenced for rape and gang rape.

Since 2022, juvenile offenders aged 16 and over who committed acts of rape or gang-related violence can be tried as adults.
