Greater Manchester Police said officers had been called out to a property on South Radford Street just before midday

A 40-year-old woman and an eight-year-old girl have been found dead inside a house in Salford, police have confirmed.

Greater Manchester Police said officers had been called out to a property on South Radford Street just before midday over "concerns of welfare".

Eyewitnesses at the scene described seeing vehicles - including a helicopter - from all three emergency services on the street earlier today.

At the time, police said the incident was "contained" and officers did not believe there to be "any wider risk to the surrounding area".

A police officer from Greater Manchester PoliceGMP later released a statement confirming their tragic findings inside the homePA

Police had imposed a cordon around the entirety of the street, before later releasing a statement confirming their tragic findings inside the home.

GMP's Detective Superintendent Simon Moyles of the Salford district said: "A woman and young girl were both tragically found dead and we are working hard as a team to establish what happened here this morning.

"Whilst we are not actively looking for anyone else in relation to this investigation, I understand the news of their deaths and the large police and emergency services presence at the address will most likely cause some concern to residents and those further afield in Greater Manchester.

"I want to reassure them that we believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider threat in the community."
