Woke NHS hospitals record babies' 'gender identities' instead of sex at birth

Midwives at leading London hospitals can only input the baby's gender, not sex
Staff at leading NHS hospitals have been recording newborn babies’ “gender identities” as opposed to their sex in records.
Midwives at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and King’s College Hospital in London can only select the baby’s gender, rather than sex, when filling out forms about the newborn.
Hospital bosses were quick to apologise about the new £450million IT system, which they admitted had “unfortunate language”.
They said that the “error is being rectified” and vowed to revert to the original system.
The new electronic health record technology, Epic, is a US-made system.
When midwives are discharging mums and babies, they fill out a report with information about the birth, which is then sent to the baby’s GP and other health professionals.
A midwife working at the hospitals told The Mail on Sunday: “The hospital discharge summary is an important document for the baby to receive the best care from the whole NHS team.
“But we are talking about newborn and very young babies here.
“What on earth has gender identity as a concept got to do with them? It’s ludicrous.”
They said that there was a “climate of fear” among some midwives, with staff fearful of being reprimanded for not using more gender-neutral language.
NHS LATEST:
Staff have allegedly been told to use the terms “birthing parent”, rather than “mother”, and “chest-feeding”, instead of “breast-feeding”.
Jenny Gamble, professor of midwifery at Coventry University, said: “Sex is not assigned at birth, that is delusional.
“A baby cannot have a gender identity, because it's a baby. Gender identity is important later in life but it never erases the importance of sex.”
A spokesman for Guy’s and St Thomas’ and King’s College Hospital said: “In line with national legal requirements, clinical staff entering the sex of a newborn baby in our new electronic health record system record this information in a field named ‘legal sex’.
“Unfortunately, an error in the system has led to discharge summary forms displaying this information under an incorrect heading of ‘gender identity’. This error is being rectified as quickly as possible, and we apologise for any confusion caused.”
The NHS has come under frequent criticism for being too 'woke'
PACampaigners slammed the move, with Maya Forstater, of campaign group Sex Matters, saying: “London hospitals registering babies by their gender identity is absurd and chilling, and a clear indicator of the extent to which transactivism has taken over the NHS.”
She said she did not buy the NHS’ claim that the mistake was due to a system error, calling it “disingenuous”.
The NHS has come under fire for being too “woke” earlier in the year, when it was revealed that they were spending millions on creating hundreds of diversity and inclusion roles.
The creation of three new departments has been proposed: Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, People and Culture, and People and Communities, with 244 posts across the three teams.
Almost £14million has been allocated to the new departments.
The move left Health Secretary Steve Barclay “frustrated”, after he ordered the NHS to get rid of specific diversity and inclusion roles in March.
He said these roles should instead be covered by “normal management processes” as part of efforts to “ensure good value for money”.
