The former MP who represented Grenfell, Emma Dent Coad, has accused governments of moving at ‘a snail's pace’ over flammable cladding on tower blocks.
Speaking on GB News Emma Dent Coad said: “The Dagenham fire was absolutely terrifying. It was in the early morning and this is obviously a massive danger time because most people are asleep.
“It’s an absolute miracle that people woke up in time and were able to alert their neighbours.
“And what we’re hearing is that there were no fire alarms and I have heard nothing about a waking watch who should have been there, awake and hammering on people’s doors.
“There are 600,000 people across the country living in unsafe buildings, and none of them are going to be sleeping tonight. It's very, very frightening.
“I'm still in contact with a lot of groups around the country, cladding scandal groups around the country living in these dangerous buildings.
“That building in Freshwater Road that we've been looking at today is going to be a skeleton. It'll be like Grenfel from what I can see.
“The fire is still going after 14 hours and that’s really very frightening.
“Well, the government has acted at snail's pace. I met, in my brief time in Parliament, five different Secretaries of State and countless housing ministers.
“They wouldn’t even take it seriously, and we know some of them are very much on the side of developers.
“Actually, developers are responsible for this. They've made a great deal of money. They should be made to put their hands in their pocket and pay.”
