Watch the dramatic footage of a US Air Force F-35 fighter jet crashing at an Alaskan base on Tuesday.

The video, which has been confirmed as authentic by an Air Force spokesperson, shows the aircraft twirling towards the ground before exploding on impact.

A deployed parachute can be seen floating slowly in the background of the footage, marking the pilot's successful ejection from the doomed aircraft.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:49 p.m. local time at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska.

The pilot, who has not been identified, ejected safely during the landing phase after declaring an inflight emergency due to a malfunction.

Following the crash, the pilot was transported to Bassett Army Hospital and remains in stable condition.

Base commander Col. Paul Townsend confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation into the cause is underway.

"Our people are our most important resource, and we are committed in ensuring their safety and security," Col. Townsend said in a statement.

He added: "I can assure you the United States Air Force will conduct a thorough investigation in hopes to minimize the chances of such occurrences from happening again."

The incident occurred during the landing phase when the pilot experienced what Townsend described as an "inflight malfunction".

Eielson Air Force Base, situated about 25 miles south of Fairbanks, has hosted F-35 operations since 2016.
