The Federal Aviation Administration warned no planes could take off

United Airlines have been forced to ground every single flight across the entire US after an “equipment outage”.

Travellers were left fuming over the delays as they were told planes were able to land but not take off.

At least seven flights have so far been cancelled according to tracking data from FlightAware.

They also report that 85 flights have so fare been delayed.

“United Airlines asked the FAA to pause the airline’s departures nationwide,” the FFA said.

“We are experiencing a systemwide technology issue and are holding all aircraft at their departure airports,” United Airlines spokesperson Leslie Scott told CNN.

“Flights that are already airborne are continuing to their destination as planned.

“We’re currently investigating and will share more information as it becomes available.”

In a separate update aiming to explain the issue, they said United Airlines and subsidiaries “are unable to contact their dispatch through normal means”.

The FAA were able to restore the system shortly after it went down.

One passenger said: “Narrowly avoided some major travel delays.

“Just flew United Airlines from Chicago to Bozeman. The guy next to me on the plane was watching the news about United.”

Another, writing from inside a grounded plane wrote: “Stuck on the runway at

Dallas Fort Worth Airport thanks to this United ground stop.

“Not fun when you’re in the absolute last row with 4 crying babies near you and it feels like it 90 degrees in the plane.

“Captain said we won’t get another update for about 30 minutes.”

A third simply wrote: “Stuck at united due to a nationwide groundstop.”

One more said: “Of course united is having a nationwide IT issue and we can’t take off.”
