Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 47th President of the United States as he prepares to sign a flurry of executive orders on his first day.

He has taken to the stage at the Capitol One Arena alongside First Lady Melania Trump and Vice President JD Vance to watch the presidential parade before he is set to speak.

He previously spoke to VIP guests at Emancipation Hall in The Capitol where he hinted at signing an executive order to pardon some January 6 riot offenders, before heading to a congressional luncheon.

This came after Trump was sworn in as president, making his oath with his left hand on a bible held by Melania, while his right hand was being raised.

The oath he took was: "I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, so help my God."

President Trump then took to the stage and made his first speech after being sworn in as president for the second time.

"The golden age of America begins right now," he said, before describing America as "the envy of every nation".

"We will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer. I will, very simply, put America first."

Trump then went on to call his inauguration “liberation day”, as he called for it to be remembered as “the most consequential election” in US history.
