Transgender people have been officially banned from joining the US Army as Donald Trump’s executive order has started to take effect.
The army has confirmed that it will no longer permit trans individuals to join the military and will halt any gender reassignment procedures for members.
In a statement online, the US Army’s official account wrote: “The #USArmy will no longer allow transgender individuals to join the military and will stop performing or facilitating procedures associated with gender transition for service members.”
Noting that the changes would be “effective immediately”, all new “accessions for individuals with a history of gender dysphoria are paused”.

The army added that “all unscheduled, scheduled, or planned medical procedures associated with affirming or facilitating a gender transition for Service members are paused”.
The change has followed a series of orders signed by the President to revamp the US Army, which includes banning transgender people from enlisting.
His order stated that expressing “a gender identity inconsistent with an individual’s sex conflicts with a soldier’s commitment to an honourable, truthful and disciplined lifestyle”.
The order confirmed that anyone identifying as a different gender “cannot satisfy the rigorous standards necessary for military service”.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
By getting “transgender ideology the hell out of our military”, Trump said that his army overhaul would make “the most lethal fighting force in the world”.
Additionally, the order clarified the end of “invented and identification-based” use of pronouns.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth received just under two months to implement new gender identity policies.
Last week, the military boss stopped allowing those with gender dysphoria to enlist in the military.
A non-profit organisation insisted that “the readiness and physical capabilities of transgender service members is not different from that of other service members”

In his first term, the President banned most transgender people from serving openly in the army, which Joe Biden reversed once he assumed office in January 2021.
In response to the executive order, non-profit organisation for transgender military members SPARTA Pride said: “Transgender service members have been serving openly for almost ten years, and currently fill critical roles in every branch and specialty, including infantry, aviation, nuclear engineering, law enforcement, and military intelligence, many requiring years of specialised training and expertise.”
They insisted that “the readiness and physical capabilities of transgender service members is not different from that of other service members”.
In his long series of executive orders, Donald Trump also signed off that the US government would only recognise two sexes: male and female.
