Dan Miller believes a majority of Texan voters want independence

Leading Texas secessionist Dan Miller says there is growing support in the state for it to become a “self-governing nation among nations”.

It comes as the state’s border continues its struggle with the migrant crisis, with thousands entering the country illegally into Texas.

Speaking on GB News America, Miller claimed the majority of Texan voters are backing the independence cause and momentum is continuing to ramp up.

He compared it to Brexit, telling Patrick Christys that Texans, like Britons, have a “very clear picture of what it looks like when people want to reclaim their right of self government”.

“It’s what we’ve been working on over here since 1996”, he added.

“We started out the Texas Nationalist Movement in 2005 to try to make Texas a reality and what we’ve seen is growth from single digits to new polling showing our support is at 60 per cent of voters in Texas.

“We’re ready to reclaim our right of self-government and become a self-governing nation among nations.”

Asked what has led to the “surge” in popularity by GB News host Patrick Christys, Miller said concerns about border issues and immigration are “real drivers”.

“We saw during the Brexit debate the role that unrestricted mass migration played in helping people understand the fundamental brokenness of the European Union”, he said.

“It’s something that we’re seeing here and while unrestricted mass migration and the border issues are not the sole motivator, they do represent and outsized portion of it.

“It rally does represent a much larger problem in that the relationship between the federal government and the states is fundamentally broken.

“Texans want to govern themselves in a very certain way.”

It comes after the Texas Supreme Court struck down a bid for a vote on the state’s independence to be put on the ballot.

The election petition was signed by 139,000 residents, while the organisation said it only needed around 97,000 to be considered.

More than one million migrants have entered the US since Joe Biden became President nearly four years ago.

The US migrant crisis has become a key battleground ahead of the 2024 presidential election in which Joe Biden is expected to face off against Donald Trump in what would be a rematch of the 2020 contest.

In the 2023 fiscal year, the US Border Patrol recorded 2,063,692 encounters with undocumented immigrants.

The number fell from the record high reached in 2022.
