Ukraine and Russia are “war weary” and no significant progress is being made by either side, according to a military expert.

Major Glenn Ignazio joined Jacob Rees-Mogg on GBN America to reflect on the current state of play in the conflict which began on 24 February 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine in an escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War that stated in 2014.

Since then there has been much bloodshed and international condemnation but according to Ignazio, there is little sign of it coming to an end anytime soon.

“If you take a look at what has happened over the last couple of years, it is really getting to a stalemate”, he said.

“There’s certain achievement that are made on both sides but they are going back and forth.

“Both sides are incredibly war weary. There is a lack of morale at this time.

“Weapons are being depleted on both sides, so it really is a balanced fight right now.

“We are seeing some gains back and forth, so it is a really tough time on the ground right now but without much success for one or the other.”

The war has served to shed a light on existing global factions with Western nations such as the US and UK moving to sanction Russia with measures such as restricting business operations.

China, a major global power, continues to show support for Putin with President Xi Jinping meeting his Russian counterpart for talks and continuing to conduct business.

The war weariness may have extended further than Ukraine with calls for Western nations to quell their support for Volodymyr Zelensky’s efforts amid fears domestic issues are not being prioritised.

US aid to Ukraine hangs in the balance with Joe Biden facing opposition from within the House on his plan to bolster the financial package to Ukraine.

According to Ignazio, the war has served to expose Russia’s weaknesses.

“Russia’s tactics are very old”, he told Jacob Rees-Mogg.

“Their communication between the different services don’t exist the best and their weaponry hasn’t been the best as they advertised.

“Their push hasn’t been as strong as they have stated in the past.”
