GB News understands that RFK Jr holds a 'unique appeal' to those in their 20s and 30s

Robert F Kennedy Jr could make Biden and the Democratic Party “nervous” as he could take away precious votes from the president in crucial swing states, a US political commentator has said.

Speaking to GB News following the recent US state elections which saw the Democrats take or maintain the lead in several key states, American political journalist John Fund explained that RFK Jr could pose a substantial threat to both Biden and Trump.

With just under a year to go until the 2024 presidential race gets underway, RFK Jr could prove to be a disturbance to the leaders of the Democrat and Republican parties.

The nephew of former president JFK, recently announced his bid to run as an independent candidate in 2024, sparking both cheers from fans but distress from his own family.

In a recent poll of crucial swing states, Trump came out over Biden in all but one, but according to Fund, RFK Jr also polled well.

When asked whether an independent candidate such as RFK Jr could disrupt the 2024 presidential race, Fund said the former president’s nephew could end up in a three-way race with Biden and Trump.

“Well, that becomes very interesting,” Fund began, “And there's also Cornell West, who could take votes from Biden or another Democrat on the left.

“The new survey that gets the Democrats all nervous, showing Trump beating Biden in five of the six wing states also shows Robert Kennedy doing surprisingly well.

“In fact, among young people in their 20s and 30s, it shows Kennedy potentially in a three-way race with Trump, Biden and Kennedy coming in first.

“Now it is almost always the case that an independent candidate doesn't do as well in the final election.

“It ends up being more of a two person race. That doesn't mean that the independent candidate can't dramatically affect the election. And Robert Kennedy's appeal is, I would say, unique, is a fairway of putting it because he has civil liberties concerns that appeal to Democrats.

“He has some very interesting, not unorthodox, economic and other views that appeal to Republicans, including suspicion of the intelligence agencies.

“So he certainly would have lied in the race. I find it curious, though, that the media is so hostile to Kennedy, they refuse to give him coverage and despite these poll numbers.”

Following RFK Jr's announcement to run as an independent candidate, his siblings warned his campaign was “perilous for our country”.

His sisters Rory Kennedy, Kerry Kennedy and Kathleen Kennedy Townsend; and brother Joseph P Kennedy II said they were “deeply saddened” in a statement on social media.

Kerry wrote: “The decision of our brother Bobby to run as a third party candidate against Joe Biden is dangerous to our country.

“Bobby might share the same name as our father, but he does not share the same values, vision or judgment.

“Today’s announcement is deeply saddening for us. We denounce his candidacy and believe it to be perilous for our country.”
