Multiple people injured including boy, 9, after New York cab driver crashes onto pavement

Seven people were injured on Christmas Day when a taxi cab mounted a pavement outside Macy's department store in New York City after the driver suffered a medical episode.
The incident occurred in Herald Square, one of Manhattan's busiest tourist destinations, particularly during the festive season.
The taxi jumped the kerb near the iconic retailer's flagship store, striking multiple pedestrians including a nine-year-old boy.
All injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening, though several victims required hospital treatment following the afternoon crash.

GETTYThe incident took place around 4pm at the intersection of 6th Avenue and West 34th Street in Midtown Manhattan.
Herald Square, where Broadway meets Sixth Avenue and 34th Street, is a prime tourist hotspot, particularly during the holiday season.
The area was especially busy due to Macy's elaborately decorated display windows, which traditionally draw both tourists and New Yorkers during the festive period.
Images from the scene showed the taxi cab had sustained heavy damage, with broken parts and dents across the vehicle.

One of the victims was a nine-year-old boy

The nine-year-old boy suffered cuts to his leg and required hospital treatment.
A 41-year-old woman was taken to hospital with a head injury, whilst a 49-year-old woman was hospitalised with a leg injury.
The remaining victims included two women aged 19 and 37, and another 49-year-old woman, who all declined medical attention at the scene.
The 58-year-old taxi driver was also among those injured in the incident, though details of his condition were not disclosed.

Police confirmed that none of the injuries sustained in the crash were life-threatening.
The New York Police Department confirmed that no arrests had been made following the incident.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by authorities.
Police have not yet determined what type of medical episode the taxi driver experienced prior to mounting the pavement.
