The US President is under pressure to water down his EV push

Joe Biden is showing signs of “caving” on his green agenda, according to US attorney Ethan Bearman.

The US President is under pressure to water down his EV (Electric Vehicle) drive with a bicameral coalition of over 130 Republican lawmakers penning a letter to the White House on the matter.

Speaking on GBN America, Bearman told Patrick Christys that Biden is already showing signs of a deescalation.

The White House has projected by 2032 more than two-thirds of new cars and light trucks sold in the US would be electric.

“There is a little bit of caving”, said Bearman.

“There has been tremendous uncertainty and doubt around EVs here in the United States and in particular some of it is founded, such as the charging infrastructure issues.”

Berman was keen to defend the transition to electric, claiming the new internal combustion engine will also run into issues.

“When you look at the data, the idea that there are more problems form EVs are from minor software glitches”, he said.

“In terms of recalls, it is significant that internal combustion engine vehicles have just as many issues as EVs.”

Weaker than expected sales of electric vehicles and uncertainty over the green agenda has forced Biden to reconsider his green agenda.

His regulators are set to ease back, three people familiar with the administration’s internal deliberations told POLITICO.

The Environmental Protection Agency is said to be leaning towards a compromise that could see the initial pace of the required cuts eased.

A revised approach has been suggested to lessen economic fears for the industry, auto workers and consumers.

Biden will be concerned about a keystone policy potentially being undermined ahead of what promises to be a divisive US election, where he is headed for a rematch against Donald Trump.

Trump has been a long-term critic of Biden and refused to show up for his inauguration ceremony in 2021.

The 77-year-old continues to surge ahead in the race for the Republican nomination, with just Nikki Haley left standing as an alternative candidate.
