Hunter Biden indicted on federal gun charges and could face 10 years in jail

The charges carry up to 10 years in prison.

Hunter Biden’s indictment comes just days after an impeachment inquiry was brought against his father and current president Joe Biden.

House Speaker Kevin McCathy called for the inquiry into the president’s involvement with his son’s overseas business dealings.

It seeks bank records from members of the Biden family, including the president himself.

Hunter Biden faces three felony gun charges brought by the Justice Department including: False Statement in Purchase of a Firearm; False Statement Related to Information Required to be Kept by Federal Firearms Licensed Dealer; Possession of a Firearm by a Person who is an Unlawful User of or Addicted to a Controlled Substance.

The indictment claims Hunter Biden “knowingly made a false and fictitious written statement, intended and likely to deceive” a firearms dealer when acquiring a Colt Cobra 38SPL revolver on 12 October 2018.

It added that Hunter Biden “provided a written statement on Form 4473 certifying he was not an unlawful user of, and addicted to, any stimulant, narcotic drug, and any other controlled substance, when in fact, as he knew, that statement was false and fictitious.”

Further, it said that on or about 12 October 2018 through to around 23 October 2018, Hunter Biden “knowing that he was an unlawful user of and addicted to any stimulant, a narcotic drug, and any other controlled substance...did knowingly possess a firearm”.

House Republicans reacted strongly to the new of Hunter Biden’s indictment, calling on social media for the president’s son to have more charges brought against him.

Representative Pat Fallon of Texas called for Hunter to be indicted on more charges, commenting: “Violation of the Foreign Agents Act, anyone?”

Missouri Representative Eric Burlison went one step further and called for President Joe Biden to be charged with crimes, saying Hunter Biden was “a sacrificial lamb”.

He added: “We want the ‘Big Guy’,” in reference to Joe Biden.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, who has previously called for an impeachment hearing into Joe Biden, questioned whether there should also be indictments for “tax fraud, FARA abuse, money laundering, and sex trafficking”.
