The Democrat mayor appeared to shift stance on the matter last year

Rudy Giuliani’s son believes the ongoing corruption probes into New York City Mayor Eric Adams would not be happening had he stayed silent on immigration.

The Democrat mayor appeared to shift stance on the matter last year when he said the migrant crisis will “destroy” the city.

Since 2022, more than 210,000 migrants have arrived in the city with its ‘safe haven’ status giving it a legal obligation to provide shelter to anyone who asks.

Speaking on GBN America, the son of ex-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Andrew, said Adams’s federal indictment may not have happened had he remained a defender of the Biden administration.

“This administration has been draped in corruption. Whether it be the former police commissioner, who recently stepped down, or some of the closer supporters of Eric Adams”, he said.

“One of the scary things is, I don’t know if the Government would even be looking into this if Eric Adams wasn’t speaking out about the southern border and the affect on New York in an election year.

“You have to remember, that is so important about all this. You had the Biden administration at the time, 18 months before the election was going to take place was inflation and the border.

“And then all of a sudden a Democrat mayor, someone so many call the ‘rising star’, starts to look at this issue.

“I think that is when the DoJ started to look at him right there. That’s not to say he isn’t guilty of all these charges, but it does mean this DoJ took a political opponent, a political nuisance if you will and say, ‘we have to silence him’.”

Eric Adams currently faces five criminal charges and was indicted last week on charges of bribery, fraud and soliciting illegal foreign campaign donations.

The mayor’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, has argued that the allegations are part of a smear campaign.

“They want to tarnish him. They want to tarnish him in your own eyes”, he told reporters last week.

“There’s no corruption, this is not a real case. We’re going to see everyone in court.”

The indictment made the 64-year-old former police captain the first sitting New York mayor to face criminal charges.

It follows a public corruption investigation which kicked off in 2021 and looked into allegations that the Turkish government illegally funnelled money into his election campaign.

Donald Trump commented last week on the case involving the New York mayor, saying he predicted his indictment well in advance.

“I remember NYC Mayor Eric Adams, a year ago, criticising the federal government for the migrant crisis,” he said.

“And I said, ‘within a year, he’d be indicted.’ And I was right. That’s what happened. And I noticed the indictment is very old. I have the same thing. I wish him well.”
