A political advisor has said that Donald Trump feels that his rivals "should have been helping him win"

A political adviser has claimed Donald Trump feels his rivals "should have been helping him beat Biden" instead of running against him.

It comes as the former US president cemented his status as the clear frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

Republicans in Iowa were the first to cast their votes in support of a presidential candidate to take on the Democrat candidate, who will most likely be Joe Biden, ahead of the 2024 election.

Vivek Ramaswamy has now dropped out of the race leaving just three candidates, Trump, Ron DeSantis, and Nikki Haley.

Speaking about Ramaswamy, political adviser Jason Miller said that he got "too cute". He told Nigel Farage: "He's gotten a little bit too cute. That's where you saw President Trump turn his sights on him.

"Within the last couple of days here, Ramaswamy was having his people wear T-shirts that were saying save Trump, vote Vivek.

"He was caught on video talking to a lady saying 'unless you vote for me, then they're going to take the nomination away from President Trump and give it to Nikki Haley'.

"It was way too cute. And at that point, I think that's where President Trump said 'enough is enough'.

Nigel Farage said: "He just sort of tapped him down a little bit." Miller said: "I think that is a polite way of saying it. When President Trump does this, It's like Thanos from The Avengers."

The political adviser added: "I do think that Ramaswamy has a future in the conservative movement here in America.

"I think he has a very good line and very good delivery. I just think he's going to have to grow up a bit as a candidate. But I'm worried more about President Trump. No more free advice for Mr. Ramaswamy."

Ramaswamy told supporters on Monday: "There is no path for me to be the next president.

"Now, going forward, Trump will have my full endorsement for the presidency. And I think we're going to do the right thing for this country," he said.

"And so I'm going to ask you, to follow me in taking our America First movement to the next level."

As the results came in, Haley congratulated Trump on his victory but warned that both he and Joe Biden "lack a vision for our country’s future because both are consumed by the past, by investigations, by vendettas, by grievances".

Trump is leading aggregated Republican primary polls nationwide by more than 50 points, with the support of around 61 per cent of voters.

The former president described his opponents as "talented" people and called for the party to "come together."
