The cast of the iconic sitcom Cheers have reunited for the 2024 Emmy Awards.

Having ended in 1993, fans were delighted to see the cast back together again and in a familiar bar for a special tribute at the awards ceremony honouring some of the most loved shows in TV history.

All appeared on stage after host Anthony Anderson introduced the reunion, calling Cheers “one of the greatest television shows of all time".

Danson said: "This feels nice to be here in front of you." While Ratzenberger added that he would call it a "long overdue class reunion."

The Perlman asked about the whereabouts of the envelope so they could present the award for Best Directing of a Comedy Series. Then, causing a uproar of laughter from the audience, George Wendt, who played barstool fixture Norm, emerged from the wings, envelope in hand.

He walked past a framed portrait of the late Kirstie Alley, who joined the show in season 6 and stayed with it through its conclusion. The Cheers cast were not the only TV show to receive beloved tribute on Monday.

To celebrate 75 years of TV The Sopranos, All in the Family, Grey’s Anatomy, Ally McBeal, Game of Thrones, Martin, The Carol Burnett Show, I Love Lucy, and more received special tributes at the ceremony, which was broadcast on Fox.

Anderson also teased the reunion to fans ahead of the show. He told PEOPLE: "We are paying tribute to iconic shows that have changed the scope of television and entertainment by being on the air.

"We’re going to be paying homage to them, having a lot of cast members come back as themselves, as these characters, and there’s going to be a little interchange between me and them on the sets of their shows.”

Cheers ran for 11 successful seasons and bagged 28 Emmys overall.

The show followed the lives of the staff and patrons of Cheers, a fictional bar in Boston.

Cheers's bartender-owner Sam Malone (who was played by Ted Danson), a witty former Major League Baseball pitcher, was forever on the hunt for a girlfriend.

It inspired a spin-off called Fraiser, which was rebooted on Paramount+ last year.
