A horrifying precedent could be set if Trump’s legal battles prove to be the downfall of his presidential bid, according to Ben Carson.
The Former US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development worked as part of the Trump administration from 2017 to 2021.
He is backing Trump for a second term, and the 77-year-old is gaining momentum after comprehensive victories in the New Hampshire primary and the Iowa caucus.
An array of legal battles continue to hinder the former President as he sets his sights on a probable rematch with Joe Biden in November.

Speaking on GB News, Carson said Trump’s indictments are only serving to boost his popularity.
“I think a lot of people who don’t actually care for him in terms of his personality recognise that if we allow his opponents to use the Department of Justice to eliminate him as a viable candidate, America will never be the same again”, he said.

“People know his personality is such that he’s probably not going to let anything roll off his back and just ignore it.
“You have to take the good with the bad. You take it all together and you have to ask yourself the question, would you rather have someone who maybe is a little loose with the tongue but has policies that improve your life, or would you rather have someone with a silver tongue who has all the correct political speech and does nothing but ruin your life?”
Carson went on to detail his relationship with Donald Trump as he spoke to Nigel Farage about his electoral prospects.
He also touched upon his short-lived bid for the presidency ahead of the 2016 election, saying he dropped out of the race after finding out how aligned he was with Trump politically.
While the two of them are “different” in terms of personality, they are “pretty much peas in a pod”, he said.
“There were no difficulties working with him whatsoever”, he said.
“We understood things very much the same way. When I dropped out, that was the reason I endorsed him quickly.
“Becoming President of the United States for me was not a great desire. The only reason I did it was because I was very concerned about what was going to happen to our children, our grandchildren, all the people who are coming after us.
“He cheeped the boxes that needed to be checked in terms of understanding the economy, understanding the regulatory burden, understanding that there was an administrative state that was antithetical to the principles of the founding of this country.”
