The University of Arts London said its 'language accurately reflects the inclusive nature of the policy'
The University of Arts London (UAL) has steered clear of using the word "woman" in its policies on menopause and parental leave, it has emerged.
A new report by the Policy Exchange think tank found that UAL uses the terms "pregnant person" and "expectant parent", or simply person and people when discussing the subjects.
One part of a UAL document states: "This policy uses the term ‘maternity’ throughout to reflect UK law.
"However, this policy applies to people of all genders at UAL."

Another section says that the menopause can be "experienced by colleagues who do not identify as female".
And a third part adds that expectant parents "may be of any gender (including trans, non-binary, agender, gender nonconforming, genderqueer and gender-fluid individuals)".
The findings came after the think tank asked for evidence of gender-identity beliefs being transferred into public discourse.
Lottie Moore from Policy Exchange said: "The removal of language relating to female biology within UAL staff policies is yet another example of where gender-identity beliefs are taking precedence above all else, including scientific fact.
"Language matters, as does biology, and it is important that such examples are exposed.
"This latest publication reveals new examples of how gender identity beliefs are being adopted in the public sphere in the absence of public consent, often with severe consequences for society’s most vulnerable. This needs to stop."
A spokeswoman for UAL said: “We are proud of our sector-leading equal parental leave policy.
"The language used accurately reflects the inclusive nature of the policy, which applies to all new parents at UAL, regardless of gender, sexual orientation or how people become parents.
"Therefore, any woman who becomes a parent is entitled to the benefits of the policy.
"Similarly, any woman who is experiencing menopause is also supported through our policies.
"We welcome constructive discussions with any other institutions interested in learning more about the value of equal parental leave and our menopause policy which not only benefit our staff members individually but also contribute to a more equitable workplace."
