Former Sun editor Kelvin MacKenzie has raged at a new poll showing one in eight Labour voters believe the England flag is racist, divisive and shouldn’t be flown.
Speaking on GB News, MacKenzie said it is reflective of a country where many would “prefer the Palestinian flag” to be hoisted up.
The shock poll findings were published ahead of St George’s Day.
“I think in the light of the Gaza war, the leftists hate this country”, he said.

“With Gaza, I suspect there are a number of people in this country who would prefer the Palestinian flag to be flying, rather than the St George’s Flag.”
“You can imagine it’s probably more than one in eight would prefer it”, Ben Leo replied.

Sir Keir Starmer says Labour are now the party of patriotism
PA“I absolutely agree with that”, said MacKenzie.
“It’s a great sadness of the country. As we all know, Emily Thornberry lost her job, and she’s back in the Cabinet again.
“She was fired for about 10 seconds and then Labour said, ‘actually, we really agree with you, anybody who’s got a flag flying outside their house, actually we don’t like them either’.”
The ex-Sun editor was making reference to Thornberry resigning from Ed Miliband’s shadow cabinet in 2014 after appearing to mock the flying of St George’s Flag.
The poll results showed nearly three quarters of the 5,400 voters who took part in the study believe the cross represents England and offence should not be drawn from it.
Seventy four per cent of voters overall said “no one should be offended” by a flag that “represents England”, but when isolating the 2019 Labour voters, the figure fell to 56 per cent.
It comes after Sir Keir Starmer said the Tories are no longer the party of patriotism.
He said in the Sunday Telegraph that the Conservatives are ruining some of Britain’s “proudest national institutions”, he then claimed Labour are not the party of patriotism in Britain.
He spoke of his “pride and gratitude” at being England and Labour was “at its best when it has celebrated, defended and served the values” of Britain.
The Labour leader also promised to “always put country above party” as they continue to soar in the polls.
