The Tory MP questioned a spokesperson for the group about their motives

Jacob Rees-Mogg was embroiled in a tense debate with a Just Stop Oil protester who repeatedly attempted to shut down the GB News presenter by speaking over him.

The Tory MP questioned James Skeet who acts as a spokesperson for the group about their motives after a report claimed young people are doing less for the environment than older Britons.

Skeet was pressed over whether it is fair that people of older demographics often bear the brunt of the blame for climate matters when a survey of 1,008 Britons found that 90 per cent of over-65s say they recycle as much as possible compared with only half of young people.

The spokesman opted to shift the debate onto other matters, accusing the research is a “classic GB News” ploy of pitting young against the old.

His demands for an end to all new oil and gas licenses were branded “bogus” by Rees-Mogg, who said there is no future in sight without the natural resources for now.

“2050 is net zero, not absolute zero”, he said.

“The emissions from our own resources are lower than from the resources we import.”

Skeet interjected by arguing the UK’s resources are “sold on the international market” and will “not be usable” in UK infrastructure.

The GB News presenter argued: “The Climate Change Committee itself said on fracking that using our own resources reduced carbon emissions.”

Pressed on whether he accepts the findings of the committee, Skeet appeared flustered before suggesting there is “a lot of complicated investments”.

He continued by pointing out Rishi Sunak’s father-in-law’s interest with BP, hitting out at institutional “corruption”, which he suggested Rees-Mogg is facilitating.

The GB News presenter argued he is “casting aspersions without one jot of evidence”.

“You want to stop the British economy, you want to make the voter poor”, he said.

“You want to make the British voter cold and poor, and all you do is sit there and accuse me of lies.

“Can we have a fact from you? A single fact?”

“Just Stop Oil are calling for measures that will improve the lives of all of your listeners and viewers”, Skeet argued.

Rees-Mogg then shut down the debate by moving the show onto its next segment, much to the apparent dismay of Skeet who continued to speak over the GB News presenter.
