Donations went above and beyond the Spearhead Foundation's expectations

GB News viewers have rallied to save a veterans' charity from closure, raising £13,866 in crucial funding.

The Spearhead Foundation received an additional £50,000 donation from the Mike Gooley Trailfinders Charity following the coverage of their plight.

The combined donations will secure the charity's premises for a year, allowing them to continue their vital work supporting veterans and emergency service members.

The foundation had faced imminent closure after learning their premises funding had been cut earlier this week.

Craig Monaghan, the charity's founder, expressed his astonishment at the outpouring of support.

"It's overwhelming, to be honest. I was not expecting this at all," he told GB News.

"Just by the donations raised today in addition to the Mike Gooley supply, the building we're in will be secured for a year and will broaden our reach," he said.

He added that the funding would enable them to continue "getting veterans back into the community and getting them back on their feet."

The charity had faced a critical deadline to raise £12,800 by the end of today to save their premises.

Since launching in 2018, The Spearhead Foundation has worked with hundreds of veterans from both the armed forces and emergency services.

The foundation was established by Craig Monaghan after his own experience of feeling isolated upon leaving the Army.

"When you donate to The Spearhead Foundation, you're not funding some CEO on big money," Monaghan explained. "You're actually funding to keep veterans and emergency workers alive."

One veteran, Garrie Stockley, credits the foundation with saving his life after leaving the Royal Navy in 2002.

Following a mental breakdown and two suicide attempts, Stockley received no military medical assistance and had to rely on the NHS.

Things changed when he connected with the foundation in 2023. "The Spearhead Foundation... they listened," he said.

"People just think 'Oh right, yeah, you should just get over it, you should just deal with it', but it's so difficult to deal with it sometimes I think."

The charity also supports currently serving military personnel, including Staff Sergeant David Murphy of the British Army.

Murphy, who volunteers with the foundation, described it as a place "that brings comfort" to veterans.

He emphasised that it allows veterans to feel at ease amongst others who have shared similar experiences.

The foundation's work spans both former and current service members, providing a vital bridge between military and civilian life.
