A Tui flight attendant was rushed to hospital after allegedly falling from an aircraft at East Midlands Airport on Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 4.30pm on December 16, just before the plane was due to depart.

Emergency services, including an air ambulance and the airport's fire service, were called to respond to the scene.

The female crew member was subsequently transported to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham for treatment.

According to reports, the crew member opened the aircraft door expecting stairs to be attached to the plane.

However, the stairs were not present at the time, causing the flight attendant to fall.

One witness told Nottinghamshire Live: "She opened the door, took a step out and the stairs that were supposed to be there were not there for whatever reason. She fell to the [ground]."

The airport noted that attaching staircases to aircraft is not their responsibility, but rather falls under the duties of the airline's ground handlers.

Simon Hinchley, operations director at the airport, said: "As first medical responders on site, our fire crews attended an incident on Monday when a member of Tui cabin crew sustained injuries as an aircraft was preparing to depart."

He added: "East Midlands Ambulance Service attended and took the injured crew member to hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery and will assist all parties with the investigation."

A spokesperson for East Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed they responded at 4.31pm with a paramedic in a solo response car and an ambulance.

The air ambulance was also in attendance before the crew member was transported to Queen's Medical Centre.
