The host received the best ratings on the Fox News network
Primetime host on Fox News Tucker Carlson has left the network with immediate effect, it has been announced.
The 53-year-old will have no sendoff show as his last show aired on Friday.
A statement from the network read: “FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways. We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor.
“Mr. Carlson’s last program was Friday April 21st. Fox News Tonight will air live at 8 PM/ET starting this evening as an interim show helmed by rotating FOX News personalities until a new host is named.”
Fox class A shares dropped nearly four per cent on Monday following the announcement.
Carlson was Fox’s top-rated primetime host, with an average of over three million viewers tuning in each night for his program.
His departure came less than a week after it agreed to pay $787.5 million to settle a defamation lawsuit brought by Dominion Voting Systems over coverage surrounding Donald Trump’s claims of voter fraud.
