A woman who had her eyes gouged out by her abusive ex-partner is now fearing for her life after he was transferred to an open prison.

Tina Nash, 44, was left permanently blind after ex-partner Shane Jenkin held her hostage for 12 hours before violently attacking her in 2011.

Speaking to GB News host Michelle Dewberry, Nash recalled her horrific ordeal and how she discovered that he had been moved to a lower security open prison, fearing he will soon be allowed back on the streets.

Recalling how she came to be in a relationship with Jenkin, Nash explained: "I met Shane Jenkin back in 2009. He was very, very sweet to me for the first four or five months, and I really fell for him. I'd never really been in love properly until I met him."

Detailing the abuse she endured by Jenkin, Nash told Michelle how his violent attack on her left her blind after "gouging her eyes out" with his "bare thumbs".

Nash said: "I was wrapped up in my duvet and I didn't know what was going on. I was making all these weird gargling noises, guttural noises coming from my throat - I've never made noises like that before in my life.

"I now know that was the death chant, but at the time I did not know that. Then his hands came through the duvet and start strangling me, and I couldn't protect myself because I was wrapped up in the duvet with my arms by my side. I couldn't breathe, there was no air coming in."

Unaware of the severity of her attack, Nash told GB News that she "didn't realise" she was blind until he told her that her "eyes were hanging out of her head", and that she would "never see her children again".

Nash recalled: "I didn't know I was blind, I didn't know he had beaten me up. I didn't have a voice, I couldn't scream. Next thing you know, I opened my eyes and I was somewhere completely different. I actually thought I was outside on my trampoline, sunbathing.

"He'd beaten me unconscious. My head was twice the size, I had a broken nose, broken jaw, and basically, when I was unconscious, he gouged my eyes out with his bare thumbs. I didn't know that I was blind until I come back round.

"When I come back round, as I sat up, he told me 'your eyes are hanging out of your head, you're blind, you're never going to see your children again, and this is all your fault'."

Nash's injuries to her eyes resulted in full removal, being given glass eyes as a replacement. Jenkin was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of six years. However, after serving 11 years in a maximum prison, he was moved to Cat B and then a Cat D prison, without Nash's knowledge.

Highlighting the impact Jenkin's possible release is having on her, Nash told Michelle that he "should not be allowed out on the streets", and is baffled as to how he has "slipped the net" of the justice system.

She stated: "Whilst that man has been in there getting every single bit of help that he needs, I've had to beg - all I've had is a little bit of counselling. They've tried to get my children to be young carers, and I was not having that. They deserve their childhood and they're not here to look after me.

"I never got to see them grow up, even though they have thrived and I've made sure that they have thrived.

"I've not seen my boys grow up, and that is heartbreaking for me. I still remember their little faces as the age that they was."
