A Tesco worker who was sprayed with a substance in a "chemical incident" was rushed to hospital in Dagenham.

Emergency services were called to Oxlow Lane at 3.49pm on July 31 following reports of an injured man in the Tesco store.


The London Fire Brigade (LFB) dispatched two fire engines following the "chemical incident".

Police say that a member of staff at Tesco had been involved in an altercation with a customer.

It has been reported that a customer left the store before returning and spraying the male worker with an unknown substance.

An LFB spokesperson said: "Firefighters delivered immediate emergency care on-scene to one man and worked to make the scene safe.

"The brigade was called at 3.53pm and the incident was over for firefighters at 4.25pm."

The victims injuries are thought to be non-life threatening.

Police say inquires are being carried out to apprehend the suspect.

It comes after Tesco were forced to intervene after a four-year-old girl wandered into a Tesco store on her own in Merseyside.

Staff at the store were hailed as heroes after the girl wandered into the Tesco Express on King Street in Wallasey, Merseyside.

Merseyside Police were called to the scene last Wednesday, July 24.

A spokesperson from force confirmed the child had been reported missing from her home a short distance just a few minutes earlier.

The mum explained in a post on social media her daughter had got out of the backdoor of their home and she had reported her missing within minutes.
