A man has been arrested after causing chaos at a Tesco Express in Glasgow, where he threatened staff and knocked over an alcohol display.

The incident occurred at the supermarket on Glasgow Road in Baillieston shortly after 8pm on Monday evening.


The 38-year-old man was reported to have been causing a disturbance in the store before falling and causing an alcohol display to crash to the floor.

Staff members at the premises were allegedly threatened, which prompted an immediate police response.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8.10pm on Monday, December 16, 2024, police were called to a supermarket on Glasgow Road, Baillieston, Glasgow following a report that a man was allegedly causing a disturbance, threatening staff and had fallen and caused an alcohol display to crash to the floor."

Officers arrived at the scene after receiving reports of the disturbance.

During a search following the arrest, officers discovered the man was allegedly in possession of a knife.

The suspect has been charged in connection with the incident and is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.

A report regarding the incident will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

In a recent case in Cheshire, authorities imposed restrictions on a 49-year-old man, banning him from multiple supermarket locations.

The three-year Criminal Behaviour Order prevents Andrew Crimes from entering several stores, including specific branches of Tesco Extra, Co-op, and Morrisons.

PC Justin Taylor of the local police force said: "Criminal Behaviour Orders are just one of the many tools we use to deter prolific criminals from repeatedly disrupting our retailers."

The order aims to provide reassurance to local business owners and residents.
