Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss claims he has been offered the chance to buy Chelsea Football Club from current owner Roman Abramovich.
Labour MP Chris Bryant has called for the Government to impose sanctions on Mr Abramovich after a number of Russian oligarchs have already been penalised.
The Government has so far not acted on those calls.
The Russian businessman has recently handed over the stewardship of the club to the west London club’s charitable foundation.

Mr Wyss has confirmed that Mr Abramovich is now trying to sell his villas in England, while also adding that he wants to get rid of Chelsea.
And while he is interested in buying the club, Mr Wyss, 86, believes a partnership with other interested parties would be more beneficial.
"Abramovich is currently trying to sell all his villas in England. He also wants to get rid of Chelsea quickly now. I, along with three other people, received an offer on Tuesday to buy Chelsea from Abramovich," Mr Wyss told Swiss-German newspaper Blick.
"Abramovich is asking for far too much at the moment. You know: Chelsea owes him two billion pounds. But Chelsea has no money. Meaning: those who buy Chelsea should compensate Abramovich. I can well imagine joining Chelsea with partners.
“But first I have to check the general conditions carefully.
"What I can already say, though, is that I certainly won't do something like that on my own. If I buy Chelsea, it will be with a consortium of six or seven investors."
