'Snobbery row' erupts as neighbours claim parked caravans attracting rats and devaluing homes

Neighbours have demanded the removal of two caravans from outside their homes, which they believe are lowering the value of their homes and attracting pests.
The caravans are situated in fenced-off land on Longport Road, Longport. The land is currently used as a place to feed goats.
A derelict house was situated in the field, however since it has been demolished, the land has been vacant.
The caravans parked in the empty space have caused some neighbours to complain to Stoke-on-Trent City Council, stating that the placement of the mobile homes is bringing down the value of their properties.

They have also claimed that the caravans are attracting rats.
One couple said: “They are devaluing our house, it’s a let-down on the street. There are rats on the site as well. It’s just unhygienic for a residential street, it's embarrassing.
“We’ve complained to the council but nothing seems to happen. We’ve lived here for 30 years and now want to move because of it all, most people living along here are desperate for them to go.”
Neighbour Mark Watson added: “It has caused a lot of nuisance. It is chaotic - there have been kids screaming.”
FEUDING NEIGHBOURS:
However, not all neighbours are as critical of the caravans.
Nikki McKenzie said: “I love the goats, they are absolutely fabulous. The people in the caravans have been nothing but pleasant to us, I’ve had a chat with them.
“The council has sent a letter regarding anti-social behaviour - but there’s no anti-social behaviour. They don’t make any noise and when they are sitting outside the caravan they are sitting there like a family and not doing any harm to anybody. It's just people being snobby.”
The residents in Longport are not the only neighbours who have complained to their council about eyesores on their street.

In Scotland, two neighbours are in an ongoing row over a garden hedge, which even resulted in the Government getting involved.
Two homeowners in Crieff, Scotland have clashed over the 3.4m hedge that separates their homes, as one thinks it’s ugly, whilst the other believes it offers security.
Meanwhile, a row broke out last week between two neighbours who were also in disagreement about their gardens.
A neighbour was left so angered by a tree in the garden next door that he decided to throw the leaves into the house's back garden every year.
The owner of the house next door took to TikTok to share footage of the piles of leaves.
Social media users were split on who was in the right.
