Steven feels the country's "generous" institutions have exacerbated the issue

Steven Edginton has laid bare some of his biggest takeaways from his new GB News documentary, Immigration: The Truth - the changing face of Britain explored.

Speaking on GB News, Steven said it was clear to him that many Britons feel “betrayed” by the staggering levels of immigration.

He says the issue has been further exacerbated by the country’s “generous” institutions like the NHS incentivising migrants to head for Britain via legal or illegal means.

“I learned that attitudes towards immigration are very emotive on both sides”, he said.

“We have the pro-immigration side. We went to Leicester, Britain’s least white city. I think around 40 per cent of people in Leicester are white.

“The people there are insistent it’s a great place to live. It’s multicultural and there are great aspects. But of course, we interviewed some in Leicester who felt the complete opposite.

“The impact has been immense. Two years ago, we saw race riots in Leicester between different communities over a cricket match which goes to show Leicester isn’t quite the rosy image it’s portrayed to be.

“We went to Great Yarmouth and the attitudes were the same. People were incredibly angry and felt betrayed by this issue when politicians had told them for decades and years that immigration would be cut. The exact opposite had happened.

“It’s a reason why this is one of the five constituencies that voted in a Reform representative. It’s one of the poorest paid places in the country and even there, you can see many immigrants walking around Great Yarmouth.”

According to the latest ONS (Office for National Statistics) data, around 1.2 million people migrated into the UK and 532,000 emigrated from it in 2023.

This left a net migration figure of 685,000.

The levels of migration continues to concern Britons and Nigel Farage’s Reform UK enjoyed success in the general election as a result.

The party won five seats and helped deliver the Tories’ worst ever general election result.

Reform have a firm line on immigration, promising a ‘net zero’ policy where no migrants are allowed into the country without some emigrating.
