Londoners today gathered in Trafalgar Square to protest against the expansion of the Ulez zone

Sadiq Khan’s Ulez scheme has been labelled “ludicrous” in a scathing attack on the London Mayor’s expansion plan.

Londoners today gathered in Trafalgar Square to protest against the expansion of the Ulez zone, which will result in hundreds of thousands more drivers facing a daily fee of £12.50 for using London’s roads.

The move is hoped to improve air quality in the capital.

The scheme, which operates at all times except Christmas Day, is currently limited to the area within the North and South Circular roads.

Founder of FairFuelUK, Howard Cox, hit out at Khan for the proposed expansion, claiming it will not make any difference to the air pollution levels in London.

Speaking to Martin Daubney on GB News he said: “It’s unbelievable, this man, he's so dishonest. It's unbelievable he's putting together a program of hitting people in the pocket that will not make one iota difference to the the air we breathe. None whatsoever.

“But he's going to make a shed load of cash out of it by fleecing motorists.

“We did a survey at Fairfield UK and one in three sole traders said they're not going to trade in London anymore. It's ludicrous what he's trying to do.

Asked what Khan should be doing, Cox continued: “I think he needs a better road transport strategy for a start.

“He's been responsible for actually making more congestion and potentially more pollution by low traffic neighbourhoods introduction.

“Massive cycle lanes, there's one cycle lane in London you can get HGV truck down there and only one cyclist I saw using it.

“These are the sorts of stupid things he's putting in place.

“What I don't understand is that he had a public consultation process in which two out of three people objected to his Ulez expansion.

“He ignored that 5000 of my supporters actually took part in this consultation and he's ignored them, he's dumped them.

“And he also lied to the London Assembly beforehand because he actually ordered the cameras before the public consultation agreement. How can you trust a politician like that?”

Earlier this week a High Court ruled that legal challenges against the scheme, brought forward by five outer-London boroughs, could proceed.

Bexley, Bromley, Harrow and Hillingdon, as well as Surrey County Council will all call for judicial review on the policy.
