A prominent campaigner who was attacked in the middle of the night while protesting peacefully at a former airbase has described being in a “state of panic” during the ordeal.
Sarah Carter, Save Our Scampton Campaign, and her husband Paul, accuse members of another group of assaulting them in the early hours of Sunday (4th Feb) morning.
Lincolnshire Police says it is investigating but has so far not made any arrests.
The base, once home to 617 Squadron famed for the Second World War Dambusters raid, is due to house 2,000 asylum seekers from April.
The protester has described being in a 'state of panic' during the ordeal.

“The main gate camp outside RAF Scampton has been abandoned”, said Sarah.
“There was no one left that wanted to be there anymore because of the atmosphere.
“So many people had left, so I stepped in and said I’d be happy to keep the camp going, clean it up, including the reputation.”
Sarah, who runs a cake decorating business, said she and her husband Paul were attacked by 12 people, including some wearing face coverings and others who she recognised from a rival group.

She described being in a “state of panic” to GB News.
Sarah says one person “launched” her husband Paul from a chair into a pile of wooden panels covered in nails that was to be used for firewood, while she was pushed and screamed at.
The couple, who live in the former married living quarters outside the fence of RAF Scampton, have reported the incident to the police.
Separate reports of violence have also been logged with Lincolnshire Police which says it has received “multiple reports of assault” conducted by people in masks.

The group currently camping outside RAF Scampton’s main gate along the A15 has been approached for comment by GB News, but the offer was declined.
A variety of protesters from both the local area and outside the county have occupied the space since the Home Office announced plans to house asylum seekers on site in March 2023.
Sarah says some protesters have spoilt genuine campaigns and scared locals away from an issue that affects them primarily.
“They rock up a few months in and have a party” she said, “they haven’t got Scampton in their best interests”.

“The majority of us locals don’t agree with the racism or the migrant bashing. The problem is they are attacking the wrong people.”
“Our fight is with the Government and the Home Office.”
Sarah says the main camp has now become too dangerous for genuine protesters.
“We would rather there be no camp there than a racist, dangerous camp that is a disgrace and embarrassment to Scampton.”
“There is no pride in that camp. It needs to go.”

Sarah says she’s had abuse before and the attacks won’t deter her from her campaign.
Lincolnshire Police are urging anyone with dashcam footage or information about the incidents to come forward.
In a statement, it said: “We would encourage everyone who wishes to voice their opinions through protest – which is a right we help uphold when done within the law – to do so peacefully.”
