The NHS is investing more than £10 million in research into children's gender care, including the use of puberty blockers

Puberty-blockers are "ruining peoples lives", gender-critical activist and model Sascha Bailey warned, as he reacted to the NHS investing over £10million in researching children's gender care.

Puberty blockers are medications that are prescribed to delay puberty and stop the body from producing sex hormones.

The study, commissioned following the publication of the Cass Review, will run until 2031.

Speaking to GB News, Sascha Bailey spoke about his personal experience, where he was prescribed Hormone Replacement Therapy at the age of 28 but chose not to take it.

Bailey expressed concern about the "absurdity" of nearly making a decision that would have cost him "the ability to have children forever".

He explained: "The thing with scientific studies is you have to leave the door open; otherwise, people will say it’s not scientific.

"So you have to give people the opportunity to test it. The problem with this is that we’re testing it on humans.

"There’s no option for an animal study because animals know which gender they are intrinsically; it’s biologically innate.

"But with this, we have to test and see whether it will work in theory. The problem with that is we’re ruining people’s lives forever in the process."

He added: "The problem is that it’s ideologically based. So all of the gender doctrines every single one of them is based on belief.

"It can only be done by self-reporting an individual’s lived experience, and what decisions a doctor might make, and what is the right decision to go forward, is based on their own personal worldview.

"So the only things we can focus on are the objective facts: these drugs are bad for you. They will affect the rest of your life.

"These surgeries are bad for you. They will affect the rest of your life."

The Pathways study will be subject to "strict ethical and regulatory approval" with "stringent safeguards in scientific research," according to the NHS.

Access to the study will be through new NHS children and young people's gender services.

A multi-disciplinary team will identify suitable children for consideration of puberty blockers.

Baroness Cass emphasised that parental consent would be required for participation.

"The children participating in the study will also continue to receive comprehensive psychosocial support," she added.

The NHS continues to expand services for children with gender dysphoria, in line with recommendations from the Cass Review.
