Compensation payments to victims of the Post Office Horizon IT scandal have slowed down, according to a former sub-postmaster.

Christopher Head was responding to reports that the Government wanted the Post Office to stall payments until after the next General Election.

He told GB News: “I think it's evident to all of the postmasters that I'm in contact with that the compensation process is being slowed down. We're not seeing the full and fair compensation that has been promised to all these people.

“You can see from the offer that Alan [Bates] received and that many others are going down. It's not what has been promised.”

In a discussion with Andrew Pierce and Bev Turner, he went on: “What we did is that we prepared a claim using forensic experts obviously that were approved and paid for by the Government and backed him up with tax records and business accounts.

“When that was fully quantified, we submitted that last June and finalised in September and they came on the 28th of December last year and offered less than 50% of the claim value that we put forward.”

He added: “There just doesn't seem to be any real thought process behind it on many simple suggestions have been offered to the Government and the departments by myself and others and we're just not seeing the progress.

“They are coming out to the public, making statements in the House of Commons, to the media, saying we are going to offer full and fair compensation, yet the offers that myself, Alan and others are receiving is basically in writing and saying we have no intention of paying that full and fair compensation.

“It’s been very, very difficult because it's an ongoing battle every single day. I’ve done other types of employment since and tried to rebuild but because this just keeps getting out and gets aired over and over again without any closure of any type - it just means that you're just stuck in limbo waiting for when they are going to deliver what they promise, which is the full and fair compensation.”
