The former cabinet minister said the TV drama showed ‘the depths of the misery that's visited on people by this injustice’
Former Brexit Secretary Sir David Davis has called for a rapid solution to the Post Office IT scandal and called for compensation to be paid to victims as soon as possible.
He told GB News: “When I’ve been a minister, I've always told my people I'm going to disagree with you and you're going to need to prove things that stand out.
“Lots of people have made mistakes, frankly…but my first issue at the moment is to get them exonerated, get the money to them.
“The Post Office talk about solving this and then they employ incredibly expensive lawyers.”
In a discussion with Andrew Pierce and Bev Turner, he continued: “What the docudrama did was show you the depths of the misery that's visited on people by this injustice - money, house, reputation, job, everything, and that's what it did.
“It's very difficult, miscarriages of justice. The guy you're representing, or people, or many people, are always unpopular at the beginning because people think they're guilty.”
He added: “What I want is the answer, I want resolution. At the moment, we’ve got everybody in the Commons on our side, whichever party.
“Now, there's no doubt in my mind some people made some pretty big mistakes. We've had the Ed Davey episode, plainly he didn't do his job.”
