China is trying to sabotage Britain's steel industry, a damning GB News members poll has revealed.
A staggering 97 per cent of 1,437 members believe Beijing is looking to scupper Britain's key industrial supply of steel.
A mere three per cent disagreed, opting against condemning China for its ownership of British Steel.
The UK Government has taken over British Steel from Chinese firm Jingye using emergency powers over the weekend.
The dramatic intervention came after negotiations between the Government and the company broke down.
Officials and staff have been working urgently to maintain operations at the two blast furnaces at the Scunthorpe site.
The situation has created tension between the UK and China, with concerns about the continued operation of the furnaces.
Unions have claimed that Jingye was failing to order the raw materials needed to keep the furnaces operational.
Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds accused the company of selling off raw materials, which raised concerns about possible sabotage.
This prompted an urgent effort by the government and British Steel staff to secure the necessary supplies for the Scunthorpe site. China's foreign ministry has responded by urging the UK not to "politicise" the British Steel situation.
Spokesperson Lin Jian called for the UK government to "treat Chinese businesses that have invested and operate in the UK fairly and justly, protect their legitimate and lawful rights and interests".
