'Irresponsible': Dangerous driver jailed for more than 2 years after ignoring police stop and causing crash

The incident occurred when Khan, driving a Volkswagen Golf in Peterborough, ignored police signals to stop and proceeded to drive recklessly through the city's streets.

His actions resulted in a collision that seriously injured a woman in her 60s.

Khan's reckless driving spree unfolded on Searjeant Street, where he drove on the wrong side of the road, forcing a Peugeot onto the pavement and through a front garden.

He narrowly avoided collisions with other vehicles at a junction.

Ignoring a give way sign, Khan sped through without slowing down.

He then approached Searjeant Street again via Gladstone Street.

At the junction, Khan once more drove on the wrong side of the road, colliding with a Peugeot 307.

He and another man fled the scene on foot, but Khan was swiftly apprehended after a brief chase.

The collision resulted in serious injuries to a woman in her 60s, who was taken to hospital with multiple fractures to her right leg.

At Cambridge Crown Court, Khan admitted to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

In addition to his 28-month jail term, he was disqualified from driving for three years and two months.

Sgt Ian Leeson of the police force commented on Khan's actions, saying: "Khan showed a complete disregard for the safety of others as he drove dangerously in a busy area full of other vehicles and pedestrians."

The officer added: "Although the victim's injuries were serious and long-lasting, Khan could easily have killed someone that day with his totally irresponsible behaviour."
