Teachers at her school described Scarlett as 'a much-loved pupil'
A 92-year-old man has pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving after the death of an 8-year-old girl.
Scarlett Rossborough, a pupil at Linn Primary School in Larne, died after being struck by a car driven by John Noble Lindsay in Carrickfergus on 9 August 2023.
The incident occurred on the High Street in Carrickfergus, where Scarlett was reportedly out walking as part of a community centre's summer scheme trip.
Lindsay, from Prince Andrew Way in Carrickfergus, appeared at Belfast Crown Court on Friday to change his plea.
The pensioner, who is wheelchair-bound, had previously admitted to causing death by careless driving but denied the more serious charge of dangerous driving.
Lindsay's defence barrister, Frank O'Donoghue KC, explained the change in plea to Judge Patricia Smyth.
He stated that Lindsay "does not feel he is fit enough to go this trial process" and "does not feel it is appropriate to put the family through the trial process".
When asked how he pleaded, Lindsay said: "Your Honour, I plead guilty to dangerous driving causing death."
As a result, the charge of causing Scarlett's death by careless driving was vacated and "left on the books".
O'Donoghue informed the court that a pre-sentence report would be obtained and additional medical reports submitted, noting Lindsay's "frail, ill health".
Following her death, teachers at her school paid tribute, describing Scarlett as "a much-loved pupil" who would "always be remembered for her infectious giggles and sense of fun".

Judge Smyth has scheduled the sentencing for this "very tragic matter" on 5 December 2024.
Lindsay's barrister conveyed his client's wish to have the case resolved well before Christmas, stating, "He does not want it dragging towards Christmas as he does not want to cause any additional stress to the family."
Following the guilty plea, Lindsay was released on continuing bail.
