The incident prompted police intervention after several vehicles were targeted with offensive notes

Residents in a quiet Norfolk cul-de-sac have been left shocked after offensive anonymous notes were placed on car windscreens during a parking dispute.

The incident, which occurred in The Laurels, Hopton, prompted police intervention after several vehicles were targeted with abusive messages.

Local authorities have since taken action by posting warning letters through residents' doors, urging them to be considerate when parking and to refrain from leaving offensive messages.

The dispute has disrupted what residents describe as a typically peaceful neighbourhood near the coast.

Andy Brown, a former prison officer who moved to the area with his wife Denise last June, was among those targeted by the hostile messages on December 6.

"We all have ample parking here. I can't see a problem with anybody's parking at all," the 61-year-old told the Great Yarmouth Mercury.

The resident expressed his dismay at the situation, saying he was "sickened" by the notes, as parking had never appeared to be problematic in the area.

"It's supposed to be a lovely, quiet cul-de-sac. But this is spoiling a really nice place," he added.

MORE PARKING ROWS:

One of the offensive notes left on a car read: "Learn to park. You accidentally parked like an a***e. Get the help you need before becoming the s**t head everyone hates."

Norfolk Police responded by delivering warning letters to residents on Monday, January 27.

The police letters cautioned that leaving such messages "could constitute a criminal offence."

Officers also noted that some individuals had been "approaching drivers in an inappropriate manner" regarding parking issues.

The local police team urged those responsible to cease such behaviour immediately, emphasising the need for considerate parking practices in the neighbourhood.

A police spokesperson said: "We are aware that notes had been left on cars in The Laurels cul-de-sac in Hopton following concerns raised over parking issues."

"The local beat team posted letters to remind residents to be considerate and to avoid behaviour that could lead to criminal offences," the spokesperson added.

Despite the ongoing dispute, Brown maintains that The Laurels remains a "beautiful little spot, right by the church."

"It's a shame because there are some lovely people around here," he said.
