There was anger when the protester was not arrested on Saturday

A pro-Palestinian protester who was pictured at the weekend with placard with the words "the final solution" is wanted by police.

The Metropolitan Police has asked for the public's help to identify to man carrying the anti-Semitic sign at a march in London on Saturday.

Pictures of the man show him wearing a keffiyeh scarf.

The placard depicts two people trying to topple the Star of David as well as the Nazi "final solution" phrase.

The term was used by Germany in the 1930s to describe their plan to murder all those of the Jewish faith.

There had been outrage on social media yesterday at the police's failure to arrest the man during Saturday's march.

The Met Police has found itself under criticism for the way it has handled some pro-Palestine marches, with particular anger over the decision to let a protest go ahead on Armistice Day last month.

In a statement appealing for help to find the man, the police said: "We understand why people are angry and disappointed that this man wasn’t arrested yesterday during the protest.

"We share those frustrations and obviously we wish he had been.

"We’re appealing for the public’s help to identify this man.

"The reality is with a protest involving 40,000 people where officers are focusing not just on placards but on crowd safety, potential disorder and other offences there will always be some that are missed."

It added: "We have shown that where offences aren’t seen in the moment we will still act, identifying suspects and making arrests."

Police made 13 arrests on Saturday related to pro-Palestine protests.

It is understood that the majority were related to inappropriate placards and posters.

Over the past two months since Hamas first carried out its October 7 terror attack on Israel, more than 300 arrests have been made by the Met.

Anyone with information relating to the "final solution" placard has been asked to call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting 4240518/23.
