A Derby man has been found guilty of attempted murder after stabbing his victim 12 times outside a Nottingham nightclub.

Connor Page, 27, was convicted by a jury at Nottingham Crown Court following a two-day trial, with deliberations lasting just two and a half hours.

The attack took place outside the I-Club in Wilford Street during the early hours of June 23, 2024, leaving 25-year-old Skye Severn requiring surgery.

CCTV footage played in court showed Page savagely attacking Severn following an argument outside the venue.

Phone footage captured witnesses to the assault, with one woman heard screaming "he's stabbing him, he's stabbing him".

The attack was so violent that part of the knife became lodged in the victim's skull, requiring surgical removal.

Police were called to the scene just before 4am, where footage showed the pair initially separating before coming back together for the knife attack.

Page admitted to carrying out the attack but denied intending to kill Severn when giving evidence to the jury.

"My intention was to hurt him," Page told the court when questioned by his defence barrister Steve Cobley.

Under cross-examination by prosecutor Alex Wolfson, Page acknowledged making "a conscious decision to start stabbing".

"I understand it looks bad, I understand I was stabbing him but I did not intend for him to die or to kill him," Page told the court.

Detective Constable Ruth Towle described the incident as "a savage and frenzied attack that will have been incredibly distressing for anyone who witnessed it".

After fleeing the scene, Page attempted to dispose of the weapon in a nearby car park, with his blood later being found on the blade's handle through forensic testing.

DC Towle added that Page "should count himself very lucky that he wasn't in court facing a different charge of murder".

Page, of Metcalfe Close, Alvaston, has been remanded in custody by Judge Mark Watson.

He will appear in court this Friday when a date for sentencing will be set.

The defendant had previously pleaded guilty to wounding with intent during a court appearance last October, but denied the separate charge of attempted murder.
