Donald Trump prepares to take office following his inauguration as US President later today

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has declared a peace deal for Ukraine under Donald Trump's presidency is "not just possible, but probable".

Speaking to GB News, Farage suggested peace negotiations have already begun behind the scenes.

His comments come as Trump prepares to take office following his inauguration as US President later today.

Farage criticised former Prime Minister Boris Johnson's approach of "endless war", comparing the current conflict to "1917 style attritional warfare".

Nigel Farage told GB News: "You should always take Trump seriously, but not necessarily literally. The negotiations have started already.

"What's really interesting is that we've had Boris Johnson, the great warrior Boris, saying we must fight and fight and Ukraine will win.

"Almost as if he's pushing sort of endless war, which is what it would be. This is 1917 style attritional warfare. It's absolutely horrendous.

"Even Zelensky now is saying we're open to a peace negotiation. So some moves need to happen.

"Ukraine is going to need to come to a peace deal. Ukraine is going to need some very strong guarantees, particularly as we let them down terribly over the Minsk Accords, which we signed 30 years ago.

"A message has to go to Putin and that message is 'you are not going any further'.

"No one pretends it's going to be easy, but I think it's not just possible, but probable that there will be a settlement."

The MP emphasised that while achieving peace won't be straightforward, he believes a settlement is likely under the incoming US administration.

Trump has vowed to end the Ukraine war and prevent World War III ahead of his inauguration.

"You have no idea how close we are", Trump warned during his "Make America Great Again" victory rally at Capitol One Arena.

Mike Waltz, Trump's incoming national security adviser, confirmed the president-elect's determination to resolve the conflict.

"This conflict needs to end, and President Trump has been very clear about that and is determined to do it", Waltz told CBS.

While Trump previously promised to end the war within 24 hours during his campaign, he recently admitted the process may take longer. His appointee as special envoy for Ukrainian settlement, Keith Kellogg, has set a target of stopping the conflict within 100 days.

Trump has expressed hope for early talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, potentially within his first six months in office.
