Boris is set to play a key role in the channel’s coverage of the UK general election

Nigel Farage has praised GB News’ signing of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who will be taking on presenting duties in the new year.

Boris is set to play a key role in the channel’s coverage of the UK general election, which is widely expected to take place next year, as well as the US elections.

The ex-PM will create and present a new series showcasing the power of Britain around the world as well as hosting the occasional special in front of live audiences around the UK.

GB News presenter Nigel Farage says Boris promises to provide an “entertaining” showcase for viewers of The People’s Channel, and says he and the former PM will be working to “change the narrative” on a key issue.

Farage admitted to having disagreements with Johnson in the past, but has “always enjoyed his company”.

“I’ve known Boris for 30 years, I knew him when he was a journalist and I worked in the city of London”, he said.

“I’ve always enjoyed his company. I might have been somewhat critical of what he did as Prime Minister, but that is a different kettle of fish.

“I think Boris coming to GB News and doing programmes will be highly entertaining, and that is perhaps an understatement.”

Agreeing with the sentiment was fellow presenter Patrick Christys, who said the signing of Boris Johnson is “monumental” for The People’s Channel.

He continued by asking Farage about Boris Johnson’s bid to “talk up” Britain’s history, given how previous ills are often the main talking point when it comes to the matter in question.

Farage told Christys that it is important to “change the narrative” in that regard.

Christys said: “We’ve got you [Nigel Farage] and we’ve got Boris Johnson as well, hopefully talking us up a bit.”

“This stuff about Britain’s history being so vile and so awful, have a look at our European neighbours”, Farage responded.

“We do need to try and change that narrative. Slavery and all the rest of it. Compared to the rest of Europe, we can hold our heads high.

“In terms of modern Britain, there are great frustrations but there is still something about the UK that is entrepreneurial and outward looking.

“In many ways, we as a people are much more tolerant than most in the world, so it is about time we started talking Britain up.”

Announcing his first major broadcast role, Boris said: “GB News is an insurgent channel with a loyal and growing following. I am excited to say I will be joining shortly - and offering my frank opinions on world affairs."

He said of the new series: “I will be talking about the immense opportunities for Global Britain - as well as the challenges - and why our best days are yet to come.”

In a video Boris also promised he would “be giving this remarkable new TV channel my unvarnished views on everything from Russia, China, the war in Ukraine, and how we meet all of those challenges, to the huge opportunities that lie ahead for us.”

Editorial Director Michael Booker said: “I’m delighted to say, GB News has got Boris ‘done’!

“We are tremendously proud to have him join the GB News family, particularly as we head into a seismic year for politics both here and across the Atlantic.

“Boris has been the most influential Prime Minister of our generation and his unique insight into domestic and world affairs will be a smash hit with our viewers and listeners.

“As well as his political skills, he’s an incredibly talented journalist and author, so we can’t wait to start working with him on what will be must-see TV.”
