A hospital worker has hit back at the latest NHS criticism after new figures showed over 120,000 people died in 2022, as a result of waiting to be seen by the health service.

Speaking to GB News’ Patrick Christys, an NHS worker at St Mary’s Hospital defended the work of the healthcare industry, despite soaring numbers of delayed appointments.

She said: “Oh we try very hard, I work here, so we try very very hard.

“I don’t think people realise how hard we are working, especially with the strikes and everything, to actually accommodate people. I think we are up against it all the time.

“Waiting lists are huge, but as I say when you’ve got the electives and you’ve got the traumas, the traumas take priority and the electives get pushed to one side, especially with the strikes – so some of the hospitals you can’t do both."

She continued: “I think we’re working really really hard behind the scenes but I think the general public don’t see what goes into sort of doing a list on a day and making sure that people are actually prioritised.”
