Jacob Rees-Mogg has criticised Maori politicians who performed a haka in New Zealand’s parliament last week.
Proceedings were temporarily halted by MPs rallying against new legislation that critics believe would diminish a treaty that is one of the country’s foundational documents with the Maori people.
22-year-old Hana-Rawhiti Maipi Clarke, the youngest member of parliament from the opposition Te Pāti Māori party broke into dance after being asked by the Speaker of the house if the party would support the bill.
Before doing so, she tore up the document in question.
Speaking on GB News, Jacob said the gesture was “silly”, and “ridiculous”.
