Britons have welcomed the New Year with celebrations across the UK as more than 100,000 gathered in London to watch the capital's New Year's Eve firework display.

Crowds gathered on the Embankment hours before the firework display started at midnight.
More than 12,000 fireworks and 420 lights lit up the sky around the London Eye as the eyes of the world watched London's unforgettable show.
Paddington Bear also featured in the capital's celebrations, with the duffle-coat-wearing creation making a cameo appearance on the London Eye.
Other special animations included the London Eye being filled with the Union flag in honour of the 80th anniversary of D-Day last year, Olympic medals to celebrate the success of Team GB at the Paris Olympics and Paralympics.
The iconic monument was also wished a happy upcoming 25th birthday.
However, there had been concerns about the weather derailing the capital's celebrations.
Adverse conditions, including a series of yellow weather warnings issued by the Met Office, halted jubilant crowds from gathering for official displays in a number of major UK cities.
Edinburgh and Newcastle were among the cities forced to cancel celebrations due to nervousness about the impact of the weather conditions.

Despite cancelling official celebrations, a local Edinburgh hero appeared to mark the moment in style.
Fireworks were set off from near Princes Street in the Scottish capital to celebrate Hogmanay.
However, London's celebrations received the go-ahead after Titanimum Fireworks' display director Darryl Fleming confirmed his team had implemented extensive preparations to ensure a successful event on the Thames.
Ahead of the display, recently knighted London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan also said: “I’m really excited about the London New Year’s Eve fireworks, the biggest fireworks taking place anywhere across Europe.
“Hundreds of thousands of fireworks, great light display but also a great soundtrack tonight as well.”

A number of weather warnings remained in place as Britons welcomed 2025.
Scotland faced two yellow warnings - one for snow and ice and another for rain and snow.
The North West of England faced an amber rain warning and a yellow rain warning.
A widespread wind warning was also impacting large swathes of England and Wales.
New Year's celebrations started much earlier in the day.
