London's New Year fireworks have been slammed as "woke" with many demanding organisers stick to "just music and fireworks".
Despite the cold and damp weather, thousands turned out across the Capital to enjoy the huge firework spectacular.
But some were left disappointed over Sadiq Khan's choice of messages shared through the event.
The display touched on the topic of immigration as well as the history of same sex marriage.
One person wrote on social media: "Just hark at all the woke I thought I was watching the midnight fireworks, all I heard was the history of same sex marriage, and how immigration is SO good for us; 'London is open to ALL'
"Did the BBC get its grimy mitts on this? London is NOT open to all, Khan."
Another said: "The Mayor of London had two jobs: 1. Not screw up on the midnight countdown 2. Not turn the fireworks woke...
"Sadiq Khan failed to do both jobs but then he did create Ulez so what do you expect."
A third added: "We don't need commentary telling us how great immigration is for London, clearly is it not.
"Same sex marriage and Windrush are not subjects of a new year's eve fireworks show either. In future, NO WOKE commentary, just music and fireworks."
It comes after the display was dubbed "the Sadiq Khan show" after the London Mayor was accused of putting himself at the centre of the display.
A series of drones spelt out the message: "The Mayor of London presents..." just before the extravaganza kicked off.
A unity-themed display then welcomed the new year with the messaging: "London – A Place for Everyone".
One person fumed: "The show was introduced to the world as being presented by the Mayor of London was about London and its people.
"70 per cent of the music from ethnic backgrounds, Old Lang Syne sung by a Jamaican artist and no UK or red, white and blue flags anywhere. Woke on!"
Another added: "Biggest load of attempted re writing of history b******s I've ever seen in a fireworks display."
