The homeowner politely declined the request and explained his concerns about security

A homeowner was left shocked after his neighbour called him "cheap" after they demanded access to his Wi-Fi network as their own service was being cut off for non-payment.

The unusual request quickly escalated into a neighbourhood dispute when the Wi-Fi owner declined to share his password.

The confrontation began when the neighbour knocked on the homeowner's door, claiming they had "forgotten" to pay their internet bill and asked to use their service instead.

The homeowner politely declined the request, explaining his concerns about security and noting that he pays for service tailored to his own needs.

"I politely declined, explaining that I pay for a service enough to cover my needs and don't want to risk security issues," the resident posted on Reddit.

The neighbour initially appeared to accept the refusal and left the property.

The homeowner believed the matter had been resolved, stating: "They got upset and left, but I thought that was the end of it."

MORE NEIGHBOUR ROWS:

However, the situation soon took an unexpected turn as the neighbour began spreading negative comments throughout the community.

A friendly neighbour revealed that the rejected Wi-Fi seeker was calling the homeowner "cheap" and "selfish" to other residents.

"Turns out, they've been bad-mouthing me to other neighbours, saying I'm selfish and lack a sense of community," the homeowner reported.

The disgruntled neighbour claimed that sharing the Wi-Fi "wouldn't cost anything to help out," according to local residents.

The online community rallied behind the Wi-Fi owner, offering support and practical advice.

One Reddit user suggested a clever response: "If anyone else comments on it to you, praise them for their generosity of offering to share their service with said neighbour."

Another commenter highlighted security concerns: "Allowing access to your wifi router could set you up for fraud by a person who can hack into your network."

"Not your problem, and I wouldn't share either. They need to pay their bill," added a third user.
