A gardener was threatened with legal action from their client’s neighbour after they trimmed down the top of a hedge.

Luke, who runs the TikTok account Just Gardens, said that homeowners next door threatened to sue him if he tidied up the hedge.

In a clip that has amassed over 16 million views, Luke documented how he could fulfill his client’s wishes without disturbing the next-door neighbours.

He decided to trim the hedge on his client’s side only, leaving the neighbours’ section of the bush looking unkempt.

His actions were praised by many users, who lauded how “lovely” his side looked.

One user said: “People get so territorial with their hedges and trees, perhaps they should keep it cut back!” Whilst a second added: “That’s so satisfying to watch”.

A third user chimed in: “They were silly seeing how lovely your side is now”, whilst others joked about how they wished their hedges were that tall to block out their neighbours.

Justifying his actions, one person said: “You are allowed to cut back anything on your side and anything overhanging your side.”

“You can trim branches or roots that cross into your property from a neighbour’s property or a public road,” advice on the Government website states.

“You can only trim up to the property boundary. If you do more than this, your neighbour could take you to court for damaging their property.

“If you live in a conservation area, or the trees in the hedge are protected by a ‘'tree preservation order'’, you might need your council’s permission to trim them.”
